Mystery novel features a geo-political conspiracy and action-packed terrorist plot

Alan Kopilec announces publication of ‘The Panga Attack’

DUNES CITY, Ore. – With the help of his friends and flying skills, FBI drone pilot Rex Remington III battles a terrorist who has kidnapped his sister and now threatens all of San Francisco in Alan Kopilec’s new mystery novel “The Panga Attack” (published by Archway Publishing).

Rex Remington is the grandson of Reginald (Rex) Remington-I, the CIA spy who discovered the nuclear briefcase. Rex lost his eye in a helicopter accident as a Navy Seal. The FBI picks him up as their UAV program commander. Rex Remington battles terrorism by controlling drones with his bionic digital eye. When his sister Cindy is kidnapped by a weapons dealer named Ashaar, he discovers there was more to his father’s conspiracy theory about his grandfather’s nuclear briefcase mission with the CIA and his subsequent death while guarding President Reagan.

“(The characters) use technology in battling each other in a world where the truth is suppressed by the government and distorted by the media.” Kopilec says. He hopes his novel teaches readers “Not to underestimate technology, or greed, or Russian spies, and the joy of UAV’s and conspiracy theories.”

“The Panga Attack” is available for purchase from online retailers.

Innovative Israel.

In my novel – The Panga Attack, my villains weaponize drones. But what is weaponizing a drone? Innovative designs are on the horizon, (No pun intended). Today’s drones can be large enough to carpet bomb, but can they get away with it? Also, in my novel, I conceptualize the Mother Drone, a UAV which can release a swarm of drones and drop off one crafty agent.

The microwave, a drone’s worst nightmare. But wait, the kitchen is brought to the sky.

As drones are battlefield tested, the strategy must change because war is the mother of these inventions. This technology zaps drones like a laser guided bug light rendering the electronics useless. When mounting on armored carriers; this jamming device can be moved into the battlefield where the action is to defend tanks and personnel from drone attacks.

With this technology, a drone war can become too expensive for one side. Although simple DJI’s can be retrofitted to fight as they were in my Novel – The Panga Attack; thankfully, companies like DJI, located in China’s Silicon Valley, have vowed not to produce drones for the military. I Googled that one.

Thanks for reading my short article. My novel is available on e-book for only $2.99 USD right now!

Italy joins in with drones.

In recent drone news, Italian special forces are training for at least 30 loitering drone missions. If you recall from a previous article; loitering drones can fly around silently for a couple of hours waiting, searching, and destroying key targets such as tanks and mobile rocket launching equipment. This is said to be part of a four-million-dollar contract.

In other news volunteers in Ukraine are said to be making homemade bomber drones from spare parts and usable materials such as plastic and cardboard tubing. The Forbes article describing this really sets a bleak outcome when we also are hearing that China is the lead exporter of drones, namely the DJI quadcopter which can also be used on the battlefield. In my novel, quadcopters shoot pistol ammo and are used to terrorize a community and help the criminals escape justice. However, in a practical sense, ammo is much too heavy for anything over twenty-two calibers. All-in-All, The Panga Attack is a fun ride without too much violence.

Drones in the news.

The modern-day sniper is equipped with drones and the targets are tanks. Since the war in the Ukraine began, soldiers like this one have been hunting down and blowing up tanks with exploding drones.

According to the Insider, Ukraine is raising funds for a thousand more of these drones that stalk targets (tanks) with the help of this camera equipment from hundreds of feet in the air before folding their wings and dropping like a bomb. Why the Ukraine needs to raise funds after receiving 30-billion dollars of U.S. funding is beyond me.

U.S. trains Ukrainian Killer-Hunter Drone team as it sends millions in switchblade drones to join in on the war effort. But what is a loitering drone?

Switchblade drones as shown above get their names because their wings unfold like a switchblade. Tactically, they’re unbeatable because of this. Drones like these can be shot from a cannon or deployed from larger aircraft. Controlled remotely, these drones begin their one-way missions as a missile. Their wings pop out allowing for both maneuverability and flight time as they stalk their prey and lock-in on the exact center of a tank for example

This capability dramatically increases the kill rate of the weapon even if a tank is dug in. A tank with an operating turret and ammunition is still a threat even if it’s disabled by motor round or a roadside bomb. However, pre-loaded with the correct amount of C-4, these lethal drones stop tanks in their tracks quite literally.

This is where the loitering comes in. Because of this capability the drone can fly around and map the battlefield for a half-hour or so depending on its travel time from the launch site before being dispatched to a target. Then the title Kamikaze drone comes in because the ending of its one-way mission occurs when its wings fold in and it’s guided into, the target as a missile. Undoubtedly, the worst position in the Russian military is being inside a tank as one of the four crewmembers.

From stealthy battle cruisers to aircraft carriers

This is a British battleship.

Drones are a big part of the military these days. Especially when it comes to defending a homeland from anything from drug trafficking, the crises of the open border, or helping our allies stop an all-out invasion like what we see unfolding in Ukraine. Increasingly, military ships like the stealth battle cruiser shown above deploy drones that provide real time data, keep up with and track faster vessels, and perform ship inspections out at sea.

Alternatively, larger ships like the carrier shown below deploy massive drones which can be used to carry out missions in nearby battlefields. Missions include taking out key targets such as missile launchers and tanks. Now that help is on the way, we know in the coming weeks Russian forces will lose a fortune in military might as these targets are eliminated.

Update March 22, 2022, I googled it and if the information on the web is correct. There’s a group called Oryx’s Tally and the tally is around two hundred tanks have been lost and they’ve documented eighty-one of the T-72B3 tanks destroyed. That’s probably where my drone photo (below) of a tank being struck by an anti-tank munition came from. Another interesting thing I’m hearing out there in Google land and is that even if Russian could get the needed material, with the sanctions Russia already has, they couldn’t replace the tanks they have lost. But what’s more the use of Tanks in the modern battlefield is coming into question. This makes sense because tanks have been used in the battlefield for over one hundred years longer than armed UAVs.

This is a cool one of a tank hit by a drone strike

The Panga Attack

What is a mother drone anyway? In the Panga Attack, a novel by Alan Kopilec, Rex Remington takes a romantic ride with his new boss – Angie Rosedale on a UAV that carries smaller drones inside. Basically it’s a concept I thought of five years ago when I pondered how one UAV could be a true utility UAV and even carry out a rescue mission. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=The+panga+attack&i=stripbooks&crid=3JIHMQB1WRQSS&sprefix=the+panga+attack%2Cstripbooks%2C308&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

The Russians are coming! The Panga Attack A new fiction novel by Alan Kopilec

The Panga Attack

Much talk about the Russians, drones, nuclear capabilities and biological warfare nowadays. It’s hard to believe I started writing the novel five years ago. Not such a wonder it took me so long, my first novel, pandemic caused issues, etc. What is amazing is somehow I knew the concepts within the Panga Attack Novel were somewhat visionary. This sale won’t last long, so check it out on amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, or Archwaypubsihing.com

Why swarm drones are ineffective battle threats for military bases.

There’s been talk about swarm drones on the Internet. I first wrote about them a few years back when I was writing The Panga Attack, so I did some research. What I found was that since the drones are controlled by global positioning system (GPS) and can be engineered or programmed to perform complex coordinated acrobatics on New Years Eve and the 4th of July.

However, after the concept came out, a counter-measure followed. GPS jamming systems, sometimes provided by airspace security professionals such as the US military, for US government defense systems or DEDRONE corporation for example who provides free estimates and plans to protect commercial property from drone threats.

I can’t speak for all countries, however, United States has long been equipped to to stop and track the sources of UAV attacks and the defense systems used would not be hindered by dozens of UAVs or hundreds for that matter. Our military would put the drones down on the ground like a flock of birds in a lightning storm if they came into a protected airspace.

In my novel – The Panga Attack, swarm drones are used for a terrorist plot playing out in San Francisco Bay. Download or buy a copy now on Amazon Kindle Books, Barnes and Noble, or check out rexremington.com
